Williams FW48 Hits the Track! 2026 F1 Car Shakedown at Silverstone | Albon & Sainz First Laps (2026)

A thrilling milestone has been reached in the world of Formula 1 as the Williams team finally unleashed their 2026 car on the Silverstone track! This momentous occasion comes after a week of anticipation, following their absence from the Barcelona shakedown.

The 2026 Formula 1 season is set to bring about significant changes, with new regulations that impact both the chassis and power units. To help teams prepare, an additional test was introduced, but Williams opted to skip the Barcelona shakedown due to production delays. Team boss James Vowles explained that the team was facing unprecedented challenges, with the new car's design putting three times more load on their systems.

Instead of the traditional shakedown, Williams conducted a Virtual Track Test (VTT), a unique approach that involved putting most of the physical car through a rig to simulate an on-track test. Vowles described this VTT as a success, stating that they achieved the desired mileage, and the team is now ready for the next step: the Silverstone shakedown.

The Williams FW48, as the car is known, made its debut with Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz behind the wheel. However, they didn't showcase the official 2026 livery, which features a striking combination of dark blue, black, and shades of light blue and white on the sidepods. Instead, they ran a special testing color scheme, which will be unveiled in its entirety during their next track appearance in Bahrain on February 10th.

Vowles expressed his pride in seeing the new car on track for the first time, praising the team's unity and dedication in delivering the FW48 for the promotional filming day at Silverstone. He emphasized that the team gained valuable insights in preparation for Bahrain, and both drivers provided positive feedback while identifying minor issues to address before the start of the season.

After the filming day in Bahrain, the first official pre-season test will commence, followed by another test at the same circuit before the highly anticipated Melbourne opener on March 6-8.

Alex Albon summed up the Silverstone shakedown as a smooth day with some areas for improvement, while Carlos Sainz described it as an exciting and special moment for the entire team. With the FW48 now on track, Williams is gearing up for a promising season, having finished fifth in the 2025 championship, their best result since 2017, with two podiums from Sainz in Baku and Qatar.
