In a significant move that has caught the attention of baseball fans, the Minnesota Twins have made a deal to bring first baseman Eric Wagaman into their lineup. This trade, finalized on Friday, sees the Twins acquire Wagaman from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league pitcher Kade Bragg.
Wagaman had an impressive rookie season, posting a batting average of .250 with notable contributions including 28 doubles, nine home runs, and 53 RBIs over 140 games with the Marlins. He particularly shined in September, leading his team with a remarkable .328 batting average from 61 at-bats, showcasing his potential as a clutch performer. The 28-year-old player spent most of his time on the field, starting 94 games at first base and taking the field in 13 games as a left fielder during the 2025 season. This followed his debut with the Los Angeles Angels where he played in 18 games in 2024.
Originally drafted in the 13th round by the New York Yankees back in 2017, Wagaman faced a recent challenge when he was designated for assignment by the Marlins earlier this week. His arrival in Minnesota is expected to bolster the team's first base options, joining Kody Clemens to back up veteran Josh Bell, who recently secured a one-year contract worth $7 million.
To accommodate Wagaman on their 40-man roster, the Twins have also made the decision to designate infielder Ryan Fitzgerald for assignment. Meanwhile, Kade Bragg, the 24-year-old pitcher traded to the Marlins, was selected by the Twins in the 17th round of the 2023 draft and ended last season playing for Double-A Wichita.
This trade could be a pivotal moment for both teams involved. What do you think about the Twins' decision to acquire Wagaman? Is he the right fit for their roster? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
