Prabowo's Commitment to Langkat's Recovery: Ensuring Safe Water and Infrastructure Repair
In the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides in Langkat, North Sumatra, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has vowed to address the immediate needs of the affected residents, with a particular focus on safe water access and infrastructure restoration.
During his visit to a refugee shelter at Public Islamic High School 1 in Langkat, Prabowo emphasized the government's swift response to the crisis. He stated, 'I came here to witness the situation firsthand. The governor has informed me about the urgent requirements, including clean drinking water. We will act on these needs without delay.'
The president's commitment extends beyond basic necessities. He pledged government support to repair damaged infrastructure, especially the embankments that collapsed during the floods. Prabowo assured that multiple institutions would collaborate to expedite the recovery process, saying, 'We will commence the embankment repairs immediately. I will instruct the military, the Ministry of Public Works, and the police to undertake this task, mobilizing all available resources.'
Despite ongoing emergency conditions in certain parts of the province, Prabowo noted an improvement in the situation since his initial post-disaster visit on December 1. He reaffirmed the government's dedication to monitoring disaster-prone regions and providing sustained assistance to affected communities, stating, 'The government will stand by all citizens facing hardship. Every citizen is an integral part of this nation, and no one will be left behind.'
Prabowo's visit to the refugee camp included interactions with displaced residents, children, and photo opportunities. He was accompanied by key government officials, including Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, and Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo.
This commitment to Langkat's recovery is part of a broader effort to rebuild homes destroyed in the Sumatra floods, as assured by Prabowo in related news reports.
