Ocean State Media Expands Reach: Acquires 103.7 WVEI Providence from Audacy
Ocean State Media, the parent company of Public News/Talk station 'The Public's Radio' and Rhode Island PBS, has made a significant move in the radio broadcasting industry. They have announced the acquisition of Sports station 103.7 WVEI-FM Westerly/Providence from Audacy, ending a 19-year simulcast partnership with Boston's 93.7 WEEI-FM.
This strategic move will revolutionize the way Ocean State Media reaches its audience. By consolidating signals, the organization aims to provide a seamless listening experience across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Instead of tuning into multiple stations (WNPN Newport, WNPW Westerly, WNPH Portsmouth, WNPE Narragansett Pier, and WPVD/W275DA Providence), listeners can now enjoy a single, clear, and high-quality broadcast on 103.7 WVEI-FM.
President/CEO Pam Johnston expressed her enthusiasm, stating, 'With this transition, our listeners can enjoy uninterrupted access to Ocean State Media's locally focused news and information as they travel. We're committed to delivering our distinctively local content more efficiently and effectively across the region.'
The deal, valued at $4.9 million, is a significant investment in the organization's future. While the terms were not disclosed, the move from five frequencies to one is expected to enhance the quality and reach of Ocean State Media's programming.
This acquisition marks a pivotal moment for Ocean State Media, solidifying its position as a leading media organization in Rhode Island. With a single, powerful signal, they are poised to deliver their unique brand of local news and entertainment to an even wider audience.
